Statements
It's been over 3 months since my D&C. Time sure flies these days, ahaks. Rest assured Oli is back on track liao :D Actually, I've been back on track since April. I thank my friends for being such caring souls and for your support during my down period.

My recovery was pretty fast I guess, mentally and emotionally. I went back to my regular yoga classes in May (damn I miss it so much ok!). From time to time, some friends will drop me a message, asking how I've been and such. Thanks guys, for all your concerns. Oli's back to normal dy, so don't worry your pretty heads anymore k ;)

Let me share with you guys these facts: Probably the most difficult part of my recovery was the first 4 weeks. And I'm not referring to the physical part, that part I can handle easily. I'm saying the first 4 weeks was the most difficult because, some people had been making statements/assumptions.

You know, being a Chinese, you're bound to hear all sorts of taboos and stories. Many Chinese are still stuck with ideas that, if a miscarriage happens, it's usually the woman's fault or something. Maybe she did (or didn't do) something. Some say, maybe they announced their pregnancy too early, hence the "baby" decided to "leave".

I say... Poppycock.

It's bad a enough a woman has to go through all the pains of losing a hope. It's even worse to hear such statements being made. Some of the first words I've heard is... "What did you do?"

Like, waddafwak is that suppose to mean, right?

And yes, Oli has had her fair share of hearing such statements from so-called friends as well. Yes, I heard those statements from friends, not relatives. Imagine that.

All I have to say to these friends of mine, not everything is about taboos. Look into the science part of things ok. We don't believe in baseless taboos. Some taboos have some sense (ok, we accept those), most have no sense. So, at the end of the day, if you don't have anything nice to say, shut up. You want to think old-fashion, you go ahead. Don't bloody throw the same practise at us. Lastly, if you want to make some absurd assumption over something you don't understand, don't fucking let us hear it.

Ta!

Hunger
I had just parked the car at the basement and was walking towards the lift. A black stray kitty ran towards me, letting out a very pitiful meow. I could sense she was hungry. What more being a pregnant kitty. She kept chasing me, meowing loudly, hoping she had struck her luck for some kind soul to feed her hungry tummy and her unborn kittens.

I whispered quietly to her... "I'm sorry honey, but I don't have any food for you now...".

She seemed to understand. And ran towards another couple alighting from a nearby car, and meowed really loud again. A very pitiful meow.

My heart ached.

I had no cat food at home. And the mini mart was already closed.

No living being should go hungry. Not even the strays.

Bah!
I hate cigarettes. And I especially hate smokers that smoke in the washroom! Buggers! All bo-tak-chik wan ah! There's a BIG BIG sign there that says "No Smoking" in the washroom! Motherfuckers still puffing away. On top of that, litter the entire cubicle with ciggie ashes. Shove that fucking ciggie stick up you cipets lah!

It's bad enough you smoke. It's worse when you smoke in a confined area, where the air is trapped. And it's the worse lot when you litter the area with ciggie ashes and throw the butt into the toilet bowl. Fucker, you want to smoke and choke your lungs with cancer, go fucking find your own toilet at home and puff your life out lah!

I hope ciggie taxes go up by 500%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111111

2nd Year Anniversary

Today is our 2nd year anniversary (the wedding, not the R.O.M) and hubby took the day off, while I was stuck in the office XD (watudoo, my annual leave is limited ma, hubby don't want me to waste it). Instead, hubby took me to have nice dim sum at The Oriental Pavilion, located inside Jaya 33. The restaurant was relocated here from the former Jaya building just across the road here in Section 14. I've never had dim sum there before, only a couple of dinner meals from the days when the restaurant was still in the old location. Back then, their food was pretty good.

Interior of The Oriental Pavilion. Very spacious indeed. VIP rooms are available should you wish for some privacy.

The ambiance of the restaurant was pretty alright. Lotsa natural light coming in from the many ceiling height glass panels. There's a stage as well should you have any functions there (i.e: wedding dinners). Waiters and waitresses are quite attentive as well. During lunch, you have a choice to have either dim sum, ot order dishes like fish and chicken. Bear in mind, The Oriental's pricing has gone up quite a bit since it's days in Jaya. Hubby said their dim sum is quite nice, however, he thinks their dishes no doubt nice, but is "presentation" focused (you get pretty stuff, but quantity is small). Now we come to the food :)

Some deep-friend dim sum variety. Clockwise: deep friend turnip (lobak gou), deep fried prawn dumpling, deep friend yam balls (woo-kok)

We liked the deep friend turnip, not too burnt, not too raw either. The prawn dumpling was nice too, springy prawns (which means the prawns used were fresh). However, it was a little cold. I would prefer it hot, or at least warm :) The yam balls were tasty too.

Yummy har gau and siew mai.

What dim sum meal is without these 2 staples, "har gau" and "siew mai". "Har gau" is essentially prawn dumplings in a translucent skin. The skin cannot be too think nor too thin. "Siew mai" is open-faced dumplings, in this case it's pork fillings wrapped in a yellow skin, topped with some fish roe.

Yummy siew mai.

Har gau, up close and personal. It's got 2 prawns inside!!!! :D :D :D

Phoenix feet (foong zhau). Looks better than it taste really.

There was one more dish, century egg porridge with minced pork. I forgot to take a picture of it, ahahahahaha! The porridge was really nice and sweet! :D

We both had an enjoyable lunch. Dinner was good too, we cooked at home. Had roasted char siew ribs again!!!! Ekekekekekeke!!!! This time the ribs tasted even better, because it has been marinating for a few days. Sure beats eating out :D Thank you dear, for the lovely dim sum lunch *muacks* I look forward to celebrating many more anniversaries with you (yes you readers can start barfing now).

Good Ol' Days Restaurant
This restaurant is part of the restaurant chain owned by Unique Seafood (PJ) Sdn Bhd. Heard of Pantai Seafood @ Kayu Ara? Well, it's the same owner la. Located just next door to Pantai Seafood, Good Ol' Days is their newest member. A colleague of mine brought a group of us to Good Ol' Days for a weekday lunch, and I went back there on Saturday night, with hubby and my mum :P

The main entrance of Good Ol' Days. Parking during the weekend is a real bitch.

There were people lingering around the outside of the restaurant when we arrived at 7pm++. All waiting to be seated I guess (take note: make reservations if you're coming with a big group). The building materials used were nothing really fancy. Mainly steel, metal and zinc. Wood was used extensively though, the owners were obviously trying to recreate the olden days feel of yesteryears. The open area outside of the restaurant has some cement animals (a buffalo, some pigs and ponies, an old tv cabinet and some porcelain wine jars. Think olden days China ala Wong Fei Hung era :D (somewhere along that line lah!)

Good Ol' Days menu

Their menu is printed on paper. If you come during a weekday where there's no crowd, I guess their staff can help you with the ordering, and probably even recommend some dishes. But because it was a weekend (and dinner time), you gotta figure out what you want to eat and check the boxes. Prices here are pretty reasonable, and you have quite a wide variety of dishes. A lot of pork dishes, haha! Good for pork lovers ;)

The interior of the restaurant. Note the waiter in olden days attire.

Usage of bird cages and kerosene lamps to recreate the olden days feel. Except for the TV on the upper floor, ceiling fans and air-conditioning.

Some stall-like setups. The one of the left offers "siew yuk" while the one on the right offers herbal drinks.

No cups here. You drink from a bowl, just like the olden days :)

On of their signature dishes: Braised pork leg with black beans and vinegar (zhu-giok-chou).

This is confinement food, hehe! But also eaten as a regular dish. I think they did the dish pretty well, goes well with rice. At RM12, I think it's pretty all right :) Hubby's not really into this dish, he thinks it's the vinegar, ehehehehehe! I know some men absolutely lurve this dish.

Steamed chicken with black fungus and golden mushrooms.

This dish, I felt, was so-so only. I'd preferred it with more chinese wine :P It's also one of their signature dishes. Priced at RM 15. On the upper left corner is what's left of the potato leaves dish. All their vegetables dish are priced at RM 8, and you have a choice of having it stir-fry, with oyster sauce, with soft beancurd (fu-yu) or with belacan.

Braised noodles with shredded chicken and shrimps

This noodle dish was pretty good, and quite a generous helping. I reckon 2 people can share it. At RM 8, ok ma if 2 people share.

Our total bill for 3 pax was about RM 45. Pretty reasonable hor? The total is not including the plate of peanuts and tissue wipes, I would normally ask the waiters to take them all away. Overall, Good Ol' Days is another option if you want relatively good and reasonably priced food. Service was a little clumsy in some parts, perhaps due to the crowd. The dishes are not astronomical la, but they do have merits :)

Char Siew Ribsss~~~
*Very non-halal post

We bought ourselves a new kitchen appliance recently: a blender :P It's the mid-year sale now la, can get cheap stuff ma, hehe. So anyway, we've been thinking of getting either a blender (which comes with a dry mill) or a food processor. After much comparison, the blender won. We got ourselves a Philips blender :)

Armed with the new toy, we decided to try some new recipes: sauces. We have a small recipe book of different sauces, so we thought, let's try it! One of the first sauces we tried making was the "char siew" sauce. Now this version of "char siew" is not your usual thick, sticky sweet sauce. It's a more watered down version, meant for stir-frying or roasting. I had actually reduced to amount of soya sauce required (from 100ml to 50ml), because I was afraid the sauce would be way to salty ;P The good thing about making the sauce is, you can keep the sauce to be used later (as a marinate or for stir-fry dishes).

This is the outcome... Last week's Roasted Char Siew Baby Ribs~~~~

We loved it! The pork was tender and sweet. We love baby ribs because the meat is sweet and juicy. I think the pork was a better match for the sauce. The initial round, I tried roasting chicken with this sauce. The chicken was nice, but the pork was like a perfect match. Not too salty too. For this round, we only bought one rack of baby ribs to try. The next time, we gotta buy 2 racks, one rack for each of us :PpPpPpP

P/S: We just more pork ribs this morning, bigger racks, enough for 2 meals. Hahahahahahaha! Oink Oink Oinkersssss~~~~!!!!

What's Your Sexual Nationality?

Apparently... I'm 73% Congolese in bed XD
You are wild & unpredictable!
Like the murky waters of COngo, your lovemaking is wild and unpredictable, and always deep. You are very possessive of your territory in the bedroom and always put up a fight before being conquered.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Try it for yourself here!

AAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!
We caught the preview yesterday with a few friends, HAHA! Free tickets from a friend :P After inching our way through the traffic jam (WTF! Fuel price is up, yet so many cars geh!), we had a really quick dinner and rushed to Cineleisure to catch the preview.

Oh, it was goooood! Way way WAY better that the previous Ang Lee version. Ang Lee's version was so plastic, a plastic green man running in tight shorts. Come to think of it, I've always wondered how the Hulk can still fit in those tight shorts when he's enraged :P Tiny waist for a big guy, hor?

Edward Norton played his role pretty well, I have to say. Liv Tyler was all sweet as usual, so pretty. There were some light moments as well, and in some parts, you can't help but feel empathy for Bruce Banner. As for the CGI, well, it's more convincing that what Ang Lee could do, haha! I especially like the ending of the movie :)

After the movie...

Guy 1, Guy 2, hubby and Oli: Bla bla bla... yea the ending was good... bla bla bla...

Guy 1: *tries to let out a Hulk roar*... RAAAAWWWRRR~

Oli: I think this Hulk's got a sore throat! Bwahahahahaha!!!

Guy 1: *giggles like a little girl*

Ubah Gaya Hidup~

Yes, wise words from the ruling party. Citizens are advised to change their lifestyle in order to cope with the ever changing and ever increasing prices in the country (fuel, consumer goods, services etc). You, as a citizen, have to change, You, as a citizen, have to change to adapt.

Can't afford the buy a car? Ubah gaya hidup.

Can't afford to eat out? Ubah gaya hidup.

Can't afford to buy groceries? Ubah gaya hidup.

The gomen says they are sharing the burden as well. Their entertainment allowances have been slashed 10%. Their holidays are not confined to ASEAN countries only. But the gomen don't seem to be practising their motto: Ubah gaya hidup. As far as the gomen's concern, it's the rakyat that has to 'Ubah gaya hidup', not them.

P/S: Yes, some citizens do spend frivolously, but the filthy rich couldn't care less. It's the middle and lower income who's feeling the pinch more. But none as frivolous as our gomen with our tax payers money ;)

A Blogging Affair
Have you realised... that ever since the March 8th General elections... bloggers are getting a whole lot more attention that usual?

Before March 8th, most people would brush aside bloggers. Ministers from a certain badly managed party labeled bloggers as 'monkeys'. Blogging was seen as something people with plenty of time on their hands would do. Blogging was, well, blogging lor. No big deal ma. Plenty of bloggers out there. Food bloggers, political bloggers, bloggers who rant day in day out, tech bloggers, bloggers who share their explicit experiences, bloggers lah.

Today, bloggers in this country are getting a whole lot more attention, and they never asked for it. Quite a turn of events, isn't it? Now you see bloggers contributing to newspaper columns, magazines, and other medias. Even politicians are becoming bloggers now (where once they called bloggers monkeys, should they be labeled monkeys as well, now that they're bloggers themselves?). Talk about hypocrisy, feh!

Everyone is a blogger now. Maybe tomorrow, some of our royalties will start their own blogs as well.

Blogging in Malaysia is fast gaining popularity. People young and old are setting up blogs. Blogging crossed all boundaries, and doesn't seem to have a limit. Blogger gatherings are being organised pretty frequently these days. Some bloggers are getting pretty famous too, getting a lot of coverage in the media and such.

Come June 18th, the All Malaysian Bloggers Project will be having another blogger gathering at Cineleisure, Damansara. You get to meet bloggers as well as chill out with your new friends and catch the movie screening of the Incredible Hulk too. Click here and here for more details on the event.

No, Oli won't be there. Oli's a low profile blogger, heh! I was actually asked to attend by one of the main organisers of the event, but I turned it down as the weekends are reserve. That's why I'm posting this event in my blog, in hopes it can help spread the word about the event to other bloggers out there who read my blog :) I'm doing this entirely as a favour to a good friend of mine who is part of the AMBP team (no, he doesn't know I'm even posting this, hehe!).

Subsidy Story
*Updated: Fuel hike by 40%, effective midnight tonight. From RM 1.92 to RM2.70.

So what have we left? If the subsidy goes, everything will go up 2-folds, maybe even 3. Our Ringgit value will depreciate even further. Already food prices and our daily groceries cost a lot more than it was a few months ago.

Time to be prudent with our spending. We'll probably start to see more makan places getting less businesses because people might wanna stay away from eating outside to cut cost. People will be hunting for bargains. We have to think of ways to stretch our Ringgit, to get more value.

Those of us who have been spending money like water, perhaps it's time to rethink your expenditure. Those of us who are prudent in our spending, good for us. Because times are getting pretty critical. And when times get critical, it's always good to have some extra cash for the rainy days ahead.

Also, watch out for your safety as well. When times get tough, there will be minorities who can't keep up and end up on the wrong side of the law.

Oh, I forgot to add. Fat-ass blabber mouthing politicians should also change their lifestyle, besides "advising" the rakyat to change their lifestyles. Drop your fancy cars, fancy private jets, fancy dinners and suits. Drop your escorts, bodyguards, mistresses, silk woven clothings, exquisite tapestries, branded watches, ties and perfumes. Drop your London or Milan shopping habits and buy local. Practise what you fucking preach.

Hot Guys Who Cook
8TV is showing a new programme, and hubby and I discovered it while flipping channels on a lazy Sunday. The programme showcases men (buffed up men to be precise), who apparently, claims to be good in the kitchen.

Well, well...~

So on the programme, there were 3 men. Some Aussie dude who relocated to the US, a black brother who thinks really highly of himself, and another dude who's into Italian food. All 3 of them have different characters, and introduced themselves and why they like to cook, and what sort of women would be their ideal partner.

The Aussie dude's some pro wrestling fella. He says, that American women are so totally into his Aussie accent. But seriously, he was talking and acting like some sohai :P

The 2nd dude, a black brother, is pretty arrogant. Arrogant to the point, he's so full of himself. He thinks he's like the ultimate god's gift to women LOL!

The 3rd dude, cooks pasta weirdly. And he was drowning in wine :P Plus he can't even chop garlic and onions nicely.

It was funny to watch them, because the programme was also poking fun at them and their intellects (or lack of it).

Ya, I'm rambling here. No topic to blog about. Blek!
